PRESS RELEASE for TEAM KRIEGA 407x

Team Kriega Race Effort managed to put a lat minute team together of 40+ Year old riders to contend in this Year’s SCORE Baja 1000, and to Race for the 2010 Overall Points Championship. Having come off 2nd place finishes in both the San Felipe 250 and the Baja 500, TEAM KRIEGA were in strong contention for the 2010 SCORE Championship.

We had Brian Sharp, CO a Baja Rookie (but a well seasoned MX’r) start in Ensenada and race into the rising sun amongst almost 90 other Moto entries. He had a super solid ride in a grueling section of the race course and delivered the race bike on schedule and in 1 piece just South of Puertocitos.

Kyle Abney, NM (our youngest and most Baja experienced rider) got on and he was on point and rode the bike up the ladder in the overall standings. Bike worked great for Kyle and he delivered it without any incidents to the scheduled rider change on the Hwy to Bay of LA at Race Mile 517.

Ryan Armitage, NM was patiently waiting to get on for his section, but only after our big scheduled ‘mid-race’ pit stop, where we changed both wheels with new tires, fresh oil, new filters along with our HID Race lights. It was quite a task without any extra pit support, and Ryan mounted his freshly built 2010 KTM 530XC-W to start his section. Ryan built this bike to race his own race in Class 50 where he was contending for the Championship, but could not establish enough riders, so he generously offered to race his bike with TEAM KRIEGA. Ryan made excellent time on the bike and rode a solid section in the dark to Loreto. Kyle chased and jumped back on the bike for a nasty rocky section leading into Loreto, which helped get the bike to our last scheduled rider change just south of Loreto on the twisty mountain road leading up to the small Mission town of San Javier.It was now almost 2AM, and the temps had dropped into the low 40’s. Only the leading Trophy Truck of Team Red Bull Vildosola had passed us when Kyle showed up on the bike at RM 780.

Henrik Andersen, CA/DK was getting ready to have his Baja 1000 debut and while doing last minute gear adjustments in the pit, Robby Gordon came screaming by giving him a close up of what was to come racing into the cold night with screaming 900HP TT’s breathing down his neck. He took the bike across the peninsula to the Pacific side, where the fog had a heyday with the race. Henrik had talked Kyle into helping him with a long and deep whooped out section just south of San Carlos, and Kyle again stepped up to the plate and delivered the bike back to Henrik for the final 110 miles into the Finish in La Paz. The sun was now just starting to light up the Baja sky, and Henrik felt pretty racy and on the home stretch. He took a big rock to the front wheel in a high speed rock section which resulted in a pretty hard crash that ripped plastics and kickstand off the bike and took a good chunk of meat and fingernail off his left pinky finger
Henrik assessed the situation, and knowing there was ‘only’ 80 or so miles left to the finish, he got back on the bike and rode to the first pit crew he could find to get some medical help to close up the wound and stop the bleeding.
After 3 stops to get help, he was finally in a position to get back into race mode and helped by cheering fans along the coast line leading into La Paz, he was having the ride of his life!

We finished the race in 18th out of almost 90 bike entries and 2nd in Class 40, which also gives TEAM KRIEGA 2nd place in the Overall Points Championship for the 2010 SCORE OFF ROAD SERIES in Class 40. Only outdone by the team of AMA Hall of famer, Ricky Johnson and his clan of old professionals who can still hall the mail.

Taking a Cruise

Now that the Baja 500 is over we are able to get back to normal life. Today Jed, TC and H spent the day on the ocean. We started at Dana Point and headed up to Newport Beach for a cruise through the harbor and lunch at Woody’s. Good times again. Thanks H!!

Baja 500 Race Report

IRVINE, CA. (June 7, 2010)-Team Kriega earns a respectable 2nd place in class 40 at the 42nd annual running of the Tecate SCORE Baja 500. The race course was unbelievably brutal but our freshly prepared Honda CRF450X, detailed race plan and dedicated chase teams were the key to our successful finish.

To elaborate more on our 4 rider race strategy we had Henrik AKA "H" take the bike off the line and handed it off to Collin before the first wash. Collin battled exiting Ensenada and ran to RM95 where Eric took on the dreaded eastern section. Eric made it back to RM222 after physically and mentally hitting the wall and handed it off to Collin to rip the Mike's loop to RM250. "H" took it all the way across the peninsula and through the new southern section then north to RM 333. TC then jumped on the bike and brought it in to RM402 where most of the team and chase crews were at the Baja Pits to push him to the finish line. Big thanks to Mark Hendrickson for the extra push, sorry about the roost guys.

With Team Kriega's 2nd place finish this weekend we should be sitting 2nd in championship points. The next race is the the Baja 1000 which is a 1000+ mile Ensenada to La Paz Peninsula Run where anything can and usually does happen.

We just finished tech inspection and are packing the trucks. Everything is ready to ride!!! Tomorrow we will head out at 5AM for the start and to rider change locations. I will try to update everyone when we finish.

Tuesday Prerunning Update

Prerunning is going well. TC and Henrik rode RM 250 -320 yesterday. Henrik also rode the race bike and was happy. Collin had a rest day, chased and also worked on the race bike. I will post race bike photos asap.

Jed has been chasing all over the course. Tomorrow we will head south and Henrik will ride the west side of his section and TC from RM 260 to 410 again. This section is really rutted and quickly turning to silt so I want to get my eyes on it one last time.

PRERUNNING

We just finished 2 days of prerunning and is been good. Collin has been through his section about 3-4 times, Eric 2 and TC 2. Henrik will start prerunning tomorrow. More photos and details in a few days.

Collin and TC spent some time on the race bike and preparing for the big trip down south. We dialed in the race bike, wheelsets, pit boxes and tool boxes to be ready for the race. The hours are adding up and its been hard but fun!!! photos

Just wanted to send some good product information on Motor tabs and where to buy a starter kit. We have been using Motor Tabs for training on and off the motorcycle and it really helps preloading, during exercise and recovery. With our Kriega Hydro-3 pack and Hydrapak 3 litre reversible for easy clean/dry reservoir we are able to use Motor Tab when riding the motorcycles as well. This keeps us hydrated for the long Baja prerunning and race days.
